One of my fondest memories of my childhood, when I was very young, was when my Grandmother surprised me by taking me to my very first baseball game. With no car, we made the trip by taking three separate buses as we made our way to the old Candlestick Park to see the San Franciso Giants take on the Houston Astros. It was magic for me. A little boy with his loving Grandmother. Popcorn, the cheer of the crowd and most importantly, her by my side. I'm sure there was ice cream involved as well. My Grandmother was everything to me. She passed away this past Tuesday as I was rushing to be by her side. I didn't make it, but I know she felt me there with her. Growing up with a single Mother doing her very best to raise me, my Grandmother was often there to rescue us when we needed a safety net. She was in so many ways, our home base. She was my home base. Being raised by women, some would say that I would have lacked certain traits growing up that only a Father could provide, but I would respectfully disagree. My Grandmother was the single most clearest example of strength and perseverance I could have ever had. She passed down these examples to her children never with words, but always with action. I often reflect at where I have managed to make it in life, this small but wonderful space I have carved out in the world, and I think to myself always how none of it would have been possible without her. Her unwavering support was a constant. It didn't take form in the way of a hard life talk, but more in a gentle kindness that only a warm hug, or hot meal prepared by her hands could convey. It was always the medicine you needed. It was amazing what she could speak just through her actions. She always could heal my wounds, both the physical and emotional. She was magic. She was our finest example. She was home base. I don’t know if she ever had a moment to truly reflect on her successes in life. After all, she never craved for acknowledgement. But as she rests in peace with a moment to exhale, I hope she sees just all she accomplished. You did good Grandma. You did so wonderfully good.

Took you back to our old neighborhood where Naomi spent the first year and few months of her life. Visiting the park there was always a treat for us, but revisiting pictures of Naomi then and seeing how much she's grown is just remarkable. Last day of swim class and she graduated to a mermaid! 🧜🏼‍♀️ Naomi can now swim! I am so proud considering when we started six weeks ago she was terrified of putting her face in the water. Even a splash on her face caused her panic & anxiety. Not anymore! It took us three summers of being patient and using a slow, gentle approach that would ease her in and trusting Jennifer’s mindful method!
